How to buy and redeem Minecraft gift cards

· · 4 min

What you are actually buying

A Minecraft gift card from our store is a digital code we send to your email. You redeem that code on a Microsoft account, and the game or Minecoins show up there. Nothing ships. Nothing downloads from us. We just get you the code.

People get confused because there are several products with similar names. Some give you Minecoins, which are in-game currency for buying skins, texture packs, and worlds on the Minecraft Marketplace. Others give you the actual game. A few bundle both together. I will break down each one so you do not buy the wrong thing.

The Minecoins options

Minecoins only matter if you already own Minecraft and want to spend money inside the game's Marketplace. They do not unlock the base game. If you buy Minecoins without owning Minecraft, you are buying currency for something you cannot play yet.

Both packs work the same way once redeemed. The coins appear in your account and you spend them in the Marketplace on any device that supports it.

The game editions

This is where most people pause and read carefully. There are several editions and bundles, and the names tell you a lot if you know what to look for.

Minecraft: Java and Bedrock for PC Standard Edition costs about 19 USD. This is the base game for PC. You get both Java Edition and Bedrock Edition in one purchase. Java is the original version, popular for mods. Bedrock is the cross-platform version that lets you play with friends on consoles and phones. For most PC players, this is the starting point.

Minecraft: Java and Bedrock for PC Deluxe Collection costs about 23 USD. That is about 4 USD more than the Standard Edition, and the extra gets you a selection of DLC content like skin packs and texture packs bundled in.

Minecraft: Java and Bedrock for PC Ultimate Collection costs about 31 USD. This one piles on even more DLC on top of what the Deluxe includes. If you want a big chunk of marketplace content alongside the game itself, this is the one.

Minecraft: Deluxe Collection costs about 17 USD. This is the game plus some DLC, but check carefully whether it matches your platform before buying. The naming overlaps with the PC-specific Deluxe Collection above, and they are not identical products.

The bundles

There are two triple bundles, and the difference comes down to platform.

Minecraft Triple Bundle costs about 51 USD. Minecraft Triple Bundle for PC costs about 54 USD. Both are the largest packages we carry. They include the game plus a wide selection of DLC content. The PC version is specifically for PC, while the general Triple Bundle is intended for other platforms. Read the product page before you check out so you grab the one that matches where you play.

How to buy a Minecraft gift card from us

The purchase flow is straightforward. You pick what you want, pay, and receive a code by email. Here are the steps in order.

  1. Browse the Minecraft section of our store and select the product you want.
  2. Check that the product matches your platform, especially for the PC-specific editions and bundles.
  3. Add it to your cart and proceed to checkout.
  4. Enter your email address carefully, since that is where the code will be sent.
  5. Complete payment.
  6. Check your email for the redemption code from us.

Codes usually arrive quickly. If you do not see the email within a few minutes, check your spam folder. If it is still not there, write to support@blinkcodes.com and we will sort it out.

How to redeem your code

Redemption happens on Microsoft's side, not ours. You need a Microsoft account, and if you are redeeming a PC game edition, you will want to be on the PC where you plan to play.

  1. Go to the Microsoft redemption page in your browser.
  2. Sign in with the Microsoft account that owns or will own the game.
  3. Type or paste the code from your email exactly as it appears.
  4. Confirm the redemption when the product details appear on screen.
  5. For game editions, download and install Minecraft through the Minecraft Launcher or the Microsoft Store.
  6. For Minecoins, open Minecraft on any supported device and the coins will already be in your account.

One thing worth mentioning: Minecoins are tied to the Microsoft account, not the device. So if you redeem on PC but play on a phone or console, the coins follow your account as long as you sign in with the same credentials.

A quick note on choosing

If you are buying for someone else and you are not sure what they already own, the safest bet is usually the Standard Edition at about 19 USD for a PC player, or a Minecoins pack if they already have the game and just want to buy stuff in the Marketplace. The bundles are great value, but only if the recipient does not already have half the content inside them.

I have seen people buy the Ultimate Collection for a friend who already owned the base game and several of the included DLC packs. The redemption still worked, but they paid for content that was partly redundant. A quick conversation before purchasing saves that kind of waste.
