How to top up your MTN account
Why people run out of MTN credit at the worst time
You are mid-call with family in Kabul, or trying to load a map, and the balance hits zero. It happens constantly. I have seen it enough times to know the fix should take minutes, not an afternoon of searching for a shop that sells scratch cards.
MTN is one of the most widely used networks in Afghanistan. The credit system is straightforward once you understand the denominations. You buy a code, you redeem it on your phone, and the balance lands on your account. The part that trips people up is finding a reliable place to buy that code without overpaying or waiting hours for delivery.
That is where we come in. Our store sells MTN top-up codes delivered by email. No accounts required, no app to install, and the codes come directly to your inbox after payment clears.
What you can buy and what it costs
We carry several denominations, split between plain credit and data-specific credit. Prices below are approximate and in USD, since that is how we list everything on the store.
For standard airtime credit, the options start small and scale up. An AFN 80 credit runs about 1 USD, which is enough for a few short calls or a handful of texts. If you need more talk time, AFN 160 credit is about 2 USD, and AFN 240 credit sits at about 4 USD. Moving up, AFN 320 credit costs about 5 USD, and AFN 400 credit is about 6 USD. These are all general-purpose credit, meaning they go toward calls, SMS, or whatever your plan allows.
Data credit works a bit differently. These bundles come with a set data allowance and a 30-day validity window, so they are the better pick if your main concern is staying online rather than making voice calls. AFN 185 data credit gives you 2GB for 30 days at about 4 USD. AFN 275 data credit offers 3GB for 30 days at about 5 USD. The largest data option is AFN 365 data credit, which includes 4GB valid for 30 days at about 7 USD.
One thing worth noting: data credit and regular credit are not interchangeable on most MTN plans. If you specifically need internet access, pick the data bundle. If you need to make calls, go with the standard credit options.
How to buy and redeem an MTN top-up code
The purchase flow is the same regardless of which denomination you choose. Here is what to do, step by step.
- Pick the MTN top-up product that matches your needs, whether that is standard credit or a data bundle.
- Add it to your cart and proceed to checkout.
- Enter your email address carefully, since this is where the top-up code will be sent.
- Complete payment using whichever method you prefer at checkout.
- Check your inbox for the code from us. If it does not arrive within a few minutes, look in your spam folder before reaching out.
- On your MTN phone, dial the USSD code for redeeming credit or activating a data bundle as specified in the delivery email.
- Enter the code you received when prompted by the USSD menu.
- Wait for the confirmation message from MTN confirming your new balance or active data bundle.
If the USSD menu asks you to confirm the bundle type or validity period, double-check that it matches what you purchased before confirming. It is rare, but sometimes the menu structure changes and you want to make sure you are activating the right package.
Common issues and how to handle them
Most top-ups go through without a hitch, but a few problems come up often enough that I want to address them directly.
The first is code delivery delays. If you paid and the code has not arrived after ten minutes, the most likely cause is an email filtering issue. Check spam, then check any promotional or updates tabs your email provider might use. If nothing is there, email us at support@blinkcodes.com with your order number and we will sort it out.
The second issue is a code that will not redeem. This can happen if you are entering the code on the wrong USSD path, or if your SIM has an outstanding balance issue on MTN's side. Try the code again, making sure you are following the exact dial sequence from the delivery email. If it still fails, contact us with a screenshot of the error message and we will investigate.
The third is buying the wrong denomination. It happens. You meant to grab a data bundle but clicked standard credit instead. We cannot always swap a code after it has been delivered, but if you reach out quickly before redeeming anything, we can sometimes help. The sooner you contact us, the better.
A real scenario to keep in mind
Say you are traveling and relying on your MTN line for navigation and messaging. You burn through your monthly data faster than expected because the hotel Wi-Fi is unreliable. Instead of hunting for a physical recharge shop in an unfamiliar area, you pull up our store on your phone, grab an AFN 275 data credit for about 5 USD, and have the code in your inbox before you finish your coffee. You dial the USSD code, enter it, and your 3GB bundle is live for the next 30 days.
That is the whole point. Staying connected should not require a detour or a headache, and a top-up should feel like a small task, not a project.
